Pharmacia telehealth answer

When is telehealth not suitable?

Telehealth is not emergency care and may be unsuitable when safe assessment needs an examination, testing, monitoring or ongoing clinical context.

Quick answer

Do not use Pharmacia Telehealth for a life-threatening emergency—call 000. Telehealth may also be unsuitable when the doctor needs a physical examination, diagnostic testing, close monitoring or detailed ongoing history. The consulting doctor may stop the telehealth pathway and recommend in-person or urgent care.

Call 000 for an emergency

Call triple zero (000) for severe or life-threatening symptoms. Do not wait for an online booking or telehealth appointment when emergency care may be required.

An in-person assessment may be needed

  • A physical examination or observations cannot be completed safely by phone or video.
  • Testing, imaging, procedures or close monitoring may be required.
  • Symptoms are severe, rapidly worsening, complex or outside the scope of the service.
  • The doctor cannot verify enough information to prescribe or recommend treatment safely.

Telehealth does not replace ongoing care

Pharmacia provides episodic consultations. Continue to use your regular GP or usual care team for chronic, complex or worsening conditions, preventive care and continuity of care.
