What happens if the doctor does not issue a prescription?

A doctor may decide that prescribing is not appropriate and instead provide advice, request more information or recommend another form of care.

Quick answer

If the doctor does not issue a prescription, they should explain the clinically appropriate next step. This may include self-care advice, monitoring, contacting your regular GP, arranging tests, seeking an in-person examination or obtaining urgent care. The consultation fee covers the doctor's assessment and is not a payment for a prescription.

Why the decision can be no

The doctor may not have enough information to prescribe safely, may identify a need for an examination or testing, or may consider the requested medicine outside the service scope.

This is an independent clinical decision. Pharmacia does not direct the doctor's prescribing judgement.

Possible next steps

  • Follow advice provided during the consultation.
  • Arrange an appointment with your regular GP or another appropriate service.
  • Seek in-person, urgent or emergency care when advised.
  • Provide additional records only through a secure pathway requested by the doctor.

The fee covers clinical time

The price shown before payment covers the booked consultation and clinical assessment. Medicine, dispensing and delivery charges are separate, and a prescription or other particular outcome is not guaranteed.
