You can request a consultation about an existing regular medicine, but the doctor must assess whether issuing a new prescription is safe and appropriate. Have the medicine name, strength, directions, relevant history and your usual prescriber's details available. The doctor may decline or direct you back to ongoing or in-person care.
A repeat request is still a clinical consultation
Even when you have used a medicine before, the doctor needs to consider your current circumstances, medicine history, allergies and whether monitoring or follow-up is required.
The result may be a prescription, a recommendation to contact your regular GP, a request for more information or a direction to obtain in-person care.
Information that may help
- The exact medicine name, strength and directions on the label.
- When it was last prescribed and who usually prescribes it.
- Relevant allergies, other medicines and recent health changes.
- Any monitoring, tests or specialist instructions connected to the medicine.
When ongoing care matters
Regular GP or specialist care is important when a medicine needs monitoring, dose adjustment or management as part of a chronic or complex condition. Pharmacia Telehealth provides episodic consultations and does not replace that continuity.
